Slettnes Lighthouse

Slettnes fyr is the northernmost lighthouse on the European mainland. It is located approximately 3 km from the Gamvik municipality. The lighthouse is 39 meters high, and the only cast-iron lighthouse in the province Finnmark. The lighthouse is about 8 feet above sea level.

The lighthouse was built in the period between 1903 through 1905. During the Second World War in 1944, German troops damaged the lighthouse. The new station was designed by architects Blakstad and Munthe-Kaas and was completed in 1948. In 1998 the lighthouse was listed as a heritage. The lighthouse was automated in 2005.
